Jazelle

The song Silent Ones was written in response to the anguish I feel over how we treat animals, especially the ones that we send to be mercilessly slaughtered. What do we mean when we tell ourselves that we "love animals" and yet actively participate in their extreme suffering? Why do we blindly accept the "traditions" we have inherited when we know that they will cause fear and pain to others? When we deny that the body on our plate once had meaningful relationships and a unique purpose for existing apart from our culinary pleasure, what damage does it do to the well being of our own spirit?

Dedicated to chickens and animals worldwide. May the day come when it is the machinery that is silent and the slaughterhouses are no more.
